Blocking stolen devices:<\/strong> With every IMEI linked to an identity, it becomes easier to block stolen or fraudulent devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Improving national security:<\/strong> Registering devices helps law enforcement track criminal activity and prevent the use of unregistered phones in illegal operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exemptions and Duty Free Allowances<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Not every device needs immediate registration. The PTA registration rules include several exemptions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roaming devices and temporary use:<\/strong> Visitors may use phones with roaming SIM cards or phones used for less than 60 days without registering. However, if they insert a local SIM or stay longer than 60 days, they must register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travellers arriving in Pakistan often register their phones at the airport customs counter. This method is straightforward and efficient:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit the customs counter:<\/strong> International travellers with phones purchased abroad should visit the customs counter at the airport on arrival. If you miss this step, you may still register at a designated customs house or at selected cellular mobile operator (CMO) franchises later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Provide personal and device information:<\/strong> Customs officials ask for your passport number and National Identity Card (NIC)\/National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) if applicable, along with each phone\u2019s IMEI number. Registering at Cellular Mobile Operator (CMO) Franchises<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Since September 2019, PTA authorised cellular operator franchises to process registrations. This option helps travellers or residents who missed airport registration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visit selected franchise:<\/strong> Not all service centres offer registration; consult PTA\u2019s official list to find a participating franchise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Online Registration via DIRBS Portal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Most residents and many travellers prefer to register their devices online through the DIRBS portal (dirbs.pta.gov.pk\/drs). The process is user-friendly and can be completed from home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step-by-step guide:<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Create an account:<\/strong> Visit the DIRBS portal and click Sign Up<\/em>. Provide your CNIC\/NICOP or passport number, contact number, and email to register. Travellers should choose the correct user type (Pakistani\/International traveller\/Dual nationality or Foreigner on visa). Verify your account via the link sent to your email or the code sent via SMS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Log in and apply for a Certificate of Compliance (COC):<\/strong> Navigate to Individual Certificate of Compliance<\/em>. Select Apply for Individual COC<\/em>. Enter the IMEI number(s) and your contact number. Choose the purpose of registration (personal use or commercial use).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Receive PSID and duty amount:<\/strong> After submitting the application, PTA calculates the required duty based on the device\u2019s cost and sends you a PSID along with the duty amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
